Checking In - A Primer

So you’re in Montreal cutting loose and enjoying a couple of nights away from the bride to be. Good for you. Live it up, enjoy it, drink it in, but don’t forget to check in with your favorite girl. This will show her that you’re thinking of her and will help set her mind at ease…if you do it right. Always follow these rules to make that little phone call a sweet gesture instead of a disaster.

#1 - Call before you start drinking: Do we really have to elaborate on this one? The last thing your future bride wants to hear when she picks up the phone is the voice of somebody who is obviously drunk. And remember, secrets tend to get spilled when alcohol is involved, so call before your first beer to avoid revealing too much.

#2 - Limit that background noise: Choose a quiet place to make that necessary phone call, like your hotel room or, if you have a cell phone, a parking lot, hotel lobby, or area park. Whatever you do, don’t call from a noisy strip club or bar. Hearing a bunch of men cheering for the sexy stage dancer is not something that will give your future bride peace of mind.

#3 - Do it alone: If you know your friends’ idea of a joke is shouting out things while you’re on the phone that your fiancée definitely won’t want to hear, find a way to ditch them for a few minutes so you can check in. They might think they’re hilarious, and you might too, but she probably won’t.
